Our Core Values

"To find and care for the abandoned poor and to be family with those who have none."

-Mission of Bethesda Project

Bethesda Project’s core professional values are based on the six core values of the field of social work: service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. At Bethesda Project, all staff are to apply these values in their everyday work of being family with those who have none.

Social Justice

Working with people experiencing homelessness, Bethesda Project staff seek to gain knowledge about and promote sensitivity to oppression and cultural and ethnic diversity. We strive to connect guests and residents with access to needed information, services, and resources and encourage meaningful participation and decision-making for all people.

Dignity and The Worth Of The Person

Bethesda Project staff respect the dignity and worth of all people. We treat everyone in a caring and respectful way, mindful of individual differences and cultural and ethnic diversity. We seek to enhance guests’ and residents’ opportunities to change and address their needs.

Importance of Human Relationships

With a mission of being family, Bethesda Project recognizes the crucial importance of human relationships. Staff actively work to develop healthy relationships to engage guests and residents as partners in the change process.

Integrity

Bethesda Project staff perform in a trustworthy manner. Using Bethesda Project’s mission and standards of conduct as a foundation, employees act honestly and responsibly and uphold ethical practices in their daily work.

Competence

Employees work within their areas of understanding and continually enhance their professional capabilities with offered Bethesda Project trainings and active participation in supervision. Staff seek guidance from their supervisors when faced with situations that extend beyond their scope of knowledge and skill.
